To provide the basic skills necessary for collection of blood samples through the use of skin puncture and venipuncture techniques. The employee in this position will be cross-trained to perform other duties in the emergency department, including, but, may not be limited to, EKGs and simple patient transports.

Performs blood collection procedures through the use of skin puncture and venipuncture techniques. Performs other duties in the emergency department, including, but, may not be limited to, EKGs and simple patient transports when needed.

High school graduate or equivalent required. One year experience as a hospital phlebotomist or graduate from Phlebotomy school. Basic computer skills; basic mathematic skills. National certification preferred. Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology and an in depth knowledge of specimen collection tools and techniques. Phlebotomists are able to approach, communicate and positively interact with patients and other health care professionals while performing their duties, which may also involve stressful situations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
